Memphis at Denver

Quick summary of this game - Didn't watch the whole thing, starting watching it after 24 at about midnight, couldn't stay awake. So I can't really comment on the whole game. HA! How's that for professionalism.

Anyway I think the Nuggets will be fine. Melo looked rusty, naturally. Memphis is not a good defensive team so we'll see how they do against a tougher team.

A couple other things from the game that I thought were interesting:

- I watched the game on NBA TV so I wasn't sure what the deal was with the announcers. I wasn't sure if they were a national team or a home crew. After a little while it was fairly clear that they were the Denver home announcing crew. Because if I were calling a game with Reggie Evans playing substantial minutes, I'd mention the fact that he grabbed Chris Kaman's nuts during a game almost every chance I got.

- Also, Evans tried to slam home a put back, lost the ball in the process and landed completely horizontal on the ground. That probably wasn't on SportsCenter.

- J.R. Smith would defend George Costanza's style of offensive basketball, no question.

- The industrious crew at NBA TV was lucky enough to have a mic close enough to AI to hear a very audible "GOD DAMN IT" after a missed free throw. Thanks Allen and NBA TV.

- The color commentator said "Gasol is a little slow for what they are trying to do now," speaking on their new fast paced offensive style. Gasol is too slow?? I know he's not gonna win any races but a seven-footer with good range and not too fond of a lot of back to the basket moves and a aversion to strong defensive play is almost probably a good fit for the up and down style of play.

- AI looks like he actually likes Steve Blake. I think Blake is going to be a very important part of this team. Finished with 12 assists, which should be easy to get with the guys he can pass to. Stripped Mike Miller a couple of times trying to post up, showing that bigger guards aren't gonna just back him down no problem. He's always around the ball on both ends, hits open shots, not going to fuck up so bad where AI yells at him. Blake will fit in just fine.

- Mike Miller keeps his hair where he wants it to be with a rubber band.

Tonight

As clear as it was that I was gonna watch the Nuggets last night, Wizards vs. Suns tonight is going to be a treat.

It's the Wizards vs. Suns. That's it really.

I got some other game TiVo'd as well

My week with free NBA League Pass.

As you may or may not of heard, from 1-22 to 1-28 there will be a free trial for the NBA League pass.

I'm going to watch as much NBA as possible. With no meaningful responsibilities or a rigid schedule to get in my way plus the benefit of having TiVo, I will be able to log a lot of hours with the league.

It is my hope to keep updating this blog with my thoughts, musings, ruminations, predictions, hopes, dreams, darkest fears and observations that I've gathered from watching hoops this week.

Tonight the clear game to watch will be Memphis at Denver. AI and Melo finally get to play together. I'm excited to see how it pans out. It will be interesting at the very least.
